Wix vs Framer in 2026: Which Should Your Small Business Choose?
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Quick answer: Choose Wix if your business needs to take bookings, sell products, accept payments or manage a large content database in one place. Choose Framer if your site is mainly a marketing or portfolio site where design, motion and speed matter most. Framer starts cheaper (from $10 a month on yearly billing) but has no built-in store or bookings. Wix starts from about $17 a month and includes payments, eCommerce and scheduling from its Core plan.
Why this question keeps coming up
I build on both. In the last few months I've shipped a roofing landing page and a plumber's site on Wix and Wix Studio, and a logistics company's site and an illustrator's portfolio on Framer. Clients ask me the same thing almost every week: "Which one should I use?"
There isn't a single winner. They are built for different jobs. Here is how I decide, based on real projects rather than a feature checklist.
The short version
Online bookings or appointments: Wix
An online store or payments: Wix (or Framer plus Shopify)
A big database of listings, programs or products: Wix
Everything in one dashboard you can edit yourself: Wix
Standout design and smooth animation: Framer
A fast marketing site or landing page: Framer
A portfolio that feels premium: Framer
Where Wix wins
Business tools in one place
Wix bundles the things a service business runs on: bookings, payments, forms, eCommerce, email marketing and a members area. On its pricing page, payments, eCommerce and "scheduling and services" are included from the Core plan upward. You don't need to stitch together separate tools.
Content you can manage yourself
Wix's CMS and dynamic pages handle large amounts of structured content well. I built a plant finder with 1,000+ plants on Wix, and a youth sports charity's programs database where staff edit one row and every program page updates. For listings, programs, menus, team pages or product catalogues, this is a big advantage.
Easy for non-designers to update
The editor is visual and forgiving. Most owners can change text, photos and prices without calling a developer. Wix Studio adds more design control and responsive layout tools for agencies and designers, while keeping the same business features underneath.
Local service businesses
For trades and local services that live on calls, quote forms and reviews, Wix is usually my first suggestion. Ridge Roofing's site, for example, is a single Wix landing page with six services, each with its own request button, and a Wix Forms quote request that goes straight to the business.
Where Framer wins
Design and motion
Framer was built by and for designers. Layouts, scroll effects and interactions that take effort elsewhere are natural in Framer. If your brand is your product (a studio, an artist, a startup, a creative), Framer makes it easier to look exceptional.
Speed and clean marketing sites
Framer sites are lean and quick to publish. For a SaaS landing page, a startup launch page or a B2B services site, it's a strong fit. VENTA Logistics, for example, is a three-page Framer site with custom code components, including an interactive shipment-tracking widget, built to make a logistics company feel like modern infrastructure.
Lower starting price
Framer's paid site plans start at $10 a month on yearly billing (Basic: 30 pages, 1,000 CMS items, a custom domain). The Pro plan is $30 a month for 150 pages and 2,500 CMS items. Framer's free plan doesn't include a custom domain, so most businesses will need a paid plan.
The trade-offs nobody mentions
Framer has no native store or bookings. You can connect Shopify, Calendly or similar tools, and it works well. The kaydidthis portfolio I built uses Framer for the site and Shopify for the shop. But it is more than one system to manage.
Framer's CMS limits are lower. Thousands of items on Wix versus 1,000 to 2,500 on Framer's main plans. Fine for a blog or a portfolio, tight for a big catalogue.
Wix can be heavier. Wix sites carry more built-in features, so they need care with images and apps to stay fast. A good build keeps them quick.
Moving later is work. Neither platform exports a site you can drop into the other. Pick for where your business will be in two years, not just today.
How I decide for a client
I ask four questions:
Do you need to take bookings, payments or orders on the site? If yes, Wix, unless you already use Shopify or a booking tool you love.
How much content will you manage? Hundreds of listings or products point to Wix.
How important is a distinctive, animated design? If it's central to the brand, Framer.
Who will update the site? A busy owner editing it weekly usually prefers Wix. A team with a designer is comfortable in Framer.
If the answers are split, I look at the main goal of the website. If it's to get booked or sell, Wix. If it's to impress and get enquiries, Framer.
Frequently asked questions about Wix and Framer
Is Framer better than Wix for SEO?
Neither is automatically better. Both let you set page titles, descriptions, clean URLs and structured data, and both can rank well. Results depend more on content, structure, speed and local signals than on the platform.
Which is cheaper, Wix or Framer?
Framer starts cheaper, from $10 a month on yearly billing, against about $17 a month for Wix's entry plan. If you need payments, a store or bookings, Wix's Core plan includes them, while on Framer you would add and pay for tools like Shopify or a booking app.
Can Framer sell products?
Not natively. Framer has no built-in eCommerce, but it works with Shopify and other store tools. That is a good setup for brands that want a design-led site with a proper store behind it.
Is Wix good for small businesses in 2026?
Yes, especially for service businesses that need bookings, payments, forms and a CMS in one place. Wix Studio adds more design control for professionally built sites.
Should I switch my site from Wix to Framer?
Only if design and motion matter more to your business than built-in bookings and eCommerce, or your current site holds you back. A redesign on the same platform is often cheaper and keeps your search rankings safer.
