Manzo Mechanical Case Study: A Brooklyn Plumber's Website Built Around One Phone Call
Case study · Manzo Mechanical · Brooklyn, New York
Quick answer: Oluwafemi Aaron Ekemenah planned, wrote and designed a 9-page website for Manzo Mechanical, a one-person plumbing and heating business in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Every page is named the way homeowners search, written in owner Jamie Manzo's own voice, and offers call, text and form in that exact order, so a worried homeowner can reach Jamie in seconds.
At a glance
Client: Manzo Mechanical
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Scope: Strategy, copy, design, build
Platform: Custom code, moving to Wix Studio
Pages: 9
Year: 2026
The brief
Every homeowner who lands here is either panicking about a leak or quietly comparing three plumbers in browser tabs.
Manzo competes with five-generation shops that have dispatchers, rotating crews and dozens of location pages. It can't win on size. It wins on one thing: you get Jamie, not a call centre.
The client's brief was clear about the tone to avoid. Competitors described themselves as a "trusted partner for top-quality solutions". If a line could be pasted onto another plumber's site without changing a word, it had to go.
The approach
A three-second read on mobile: The hero says what Manzo does, who it serves and how to reach Jamie before anything else competes for attention. Most emergency visits happen on a phone, at night.
Call, then text, then form. Always in that order. Large tap targets and a persistent mobile bar on every page. A form is the highest-friction option, so it's never the first thing offered.
Problems in the customer's words: "No hot water", "Sewer backing up", "Toilet keeps running". Service pages are named the way people search, not by trade terms.
Trust before the ask: Licensing, insurance, brownstone and cast-iron experience, and a diagnostic fee published up front and credited toward the job, all placed above the first form.
Park Slope as its own page: Written for the neighbourhood and its brownstones, not a find-and-replace of the Brooklyn copy. Built to rank without copying the competitors' impersonal location pages.
Ideation and process
Discovery: Read the client brief, the competitors it named and how Park Slope homeowners actually search for a plumber.
Sitemap: Nine pages, each built around one real search: the problem, the neighbourhood, or the person.
Wireframes: Low-fi sketches to lock the order of every page before a single colour was picked.
Design & voice: Real photography, Jamie's voice and a tone checklist every page had to pass.
The sitemap
Services: Boiler repair, Water heater, Leak & pipe, Sewer cleaning, Bath & kitchen, Emergency, Gas & LL152
Park Slope: Brownstones, Service area
Our story: About Jamie
Contact: Call, Text, Form
The first draft missed. So I fixed it.
The client's first feedback was honest: the structure was right, but the site felt polished and formal. It didn't sound like Jamie. They were right, and I told them so.
I wrote a tone and visual SOP from their brief: first person, 8th-grade reading level, plain blue-collar language, a banned-words list, and a checklist every page had to pass. Then I rewrote the site in Jamie's own voice: "I'll tell you if it's a $40 part or a $4,000 problem."
